Following the launch of the Global Shield against\u00a0Climate Risks at\u00a0COP27, the CEOs of three regional risk pools\u00a0met with the\u00a0InsuResilience Global Partnership\u00a0(IGP) Secretariat for an introduction and further understanding of how this new initiative can effectively collaborate together with the risk pools.<\/p>\n
The Global Shield aims to help low-income and vulnerable countries to rebound in the event of\u00a0climate calamities. It is intended to create an influential architecture for climate and disaster risk finance and\u00a0insurance funding, with Germany\u00a0already committing \u20ac84M.<\/p>\n
Drawing on their experiences of working with the World Bank, the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) CEO Mr.\u00a0Aholotu Palu, the\u00a0African Risk Capacity Ltd.\u00a0(ARC Ltd.) CEO Mr.\u00a0Lindelwe Lesley Ndlovu, and the\u00a0CCRIF SPC\u00a0(formerly The Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility) CEO Mr.\u00a0Isaac Anthony, all raised their challenges with the entity regarding their existing financing mechanisms and the need for added\u00a0premium and\u00a0capital support.<\/p>\n
Based off this, they then provided recommendations for the progression of the Global Shield and how best it could potentially serve its purpose.
